In recent years, energy consumption has been increasing in IRAN. As far as in past years with organizing subsides in IRAN, the government has taken effective steps to encourage energy consumers to reform consumption pattern. One of important issues in reforming consumption pattern is the reform of heating supply methods.
Unfortunately, in order to provide heating in many greenhouses in IRAN, convection heating methods (hot air circulation) such as space heaters, hot air blowers, workshop heaters, hot air furnace and a variety of innovative devices are utilized. In all these methods, main amount of energy losses through ceiling & walls of building, because of transferring thermal energy to the air and moving hot air upward.
Using GARMATAAB radiant heating equipment for heating of greenhouses can control the excess consumption of heating fuel. The 30-year experience of using radiant heating systems in the world & the 18-year experience of using them in IRAN have left no doubt about efficiency, low consumption of energy & cost-effectiveness of GARMATAAB radiant heating system.
The term “GARMATAAB” is Persian equivalent for “Radiant Heater”. In this heater, natural gas burns by a specific burner with long flame in a tube with high radiation factor. The generated heat is transformed into infrared waves and is radiated to the specified places by trapezoidal reflector surface located above the device. In contact with surface, these waves are transformed into heat due to their properties and create very pleasant sensation in human like the sun. The main parts of this device include special radiant burner, radiant tubes, reflector & fan. In recent years, IRAN MASH’AL Co under license of AMBIRAD European Company has succeeded to implement numerous projects in IRAN. Most inside parts of burner of the device manufactured by this company are supplied from UK & Italy and are manufactured using European technology in accordance with “BS EN 416-1:1999” European standard. Also radiant tubes are made of special stainless steel alloy with special color with high radiation factor. The reflector is made of magnetic stainless steel .The fan is made of Italian electromotor & special propeller and provides suitable static pressure & flow rate for high efficient combustion.
By using radiant heating systems in greenhouse, soil temperature is higher than indoor air temperature, so it leads to reduce heat loss & fuel consumption for heating of greenhouse. This issue is confirmed by greenhouse manufacturer association of America (NGMA).
*Comparison between convection and Radiation heating
Hot air heating
In hot air heating method, temperature below ceiling significantly increases and leads to exchange heat with outdoor air and increases heat loss. In this method, temperature of plant surface is lower than greenhouse air temperature and leads to dew formation on plant surface. Also, more temperature variation between air below ceiling & outdoor air leads to the formation of water drops below ceiling and their falling on the plant. In this method, soil temperature doesn’t be provided ideally.
In radiant heating method, temperature below ceiling doesn't increase so much and heat loss from ceiling is low and fuel consumption significantly reduces. The device creates desirable heating like heat of the sun in the greenhouse and in this condition, soil surface temperature & plant surface is slightly more than greenhouse air temperature due to the thermostat connected to each device. Finally, this issue leads to no dew formation on plant surface and as a result, the diseases transmitted due to humidity of plant surface or air circulation decreases.
About 50% reduction in fuel consumption & 90% reduction in electricity consumption are important advantages of GARMATAAB device compared to other conventional heating systems in greenhouses. This issue was proved in audits which were carried out on greenhouses equipped with device.
